Instrument microphones
A special type of microphones are microphones for voice acting and recording musical instruments in concert halls and recording studios. Instrument microphones have convenient attachment means, such as a clip or a special stand, good sensitivity and reliable reproduction of the timbre of the instrument for which they are intended.
Dynamic microphones are rarely used for recording musical instruments, as they have limitations in technical characteristics, so in the studio they can be used with instruments that are less demanding on frequency characteristics. Pianos, acoustic guitar and other acoustic instruments can of course be recorded with a dynamic microphone, but the quality will be lost.
A condenser microphone is a microphone designed specifically for studio work. The main advantage of a condenser microphone is its high recording quality and the ability to faithfully reproduce the sound, the entire frequency range and dynamics of the instrument.
Condenser microphones, in contrast to dynamic ones, perfectly respond to the first fractions of a second of an instrument sound, which is especially important when recording acoustic guitar, percussion and piano.
Condenser microphones vary in diaphragm size. For example, a large diaphragm microphone is good for vocals, pianos, electric guitars, and bass drums, while a small diaphragm microphone is better suited for the natural sounding of acoustic instruments such as acoustic guitar, violin, or drum kit cymbals.
