phonograph
A phonograph is a musical system that is played on a record that is basically like a large disc on which several songs are built and when the phonograph is turned on it is played by a handle with a small needle clinging over the record and the record turns and then a melody comes out.
The phonograph is a very old system but in recent years it is making a comeback and returning to fashion and many people are returning to purchase phonographs so of course today there are more advanced and smaller phonographs that are comfortable to use and their sound is much higher quality.
Most of today’s phonographs have amplified speakers or an option to connect them to such, a headphone port and USB for connecting to a computer and even Bluetooth for connecting to a phone, which allows you to hear songs from your computer or phone and does not require the purchase of records.
Types of phonographs that exist today:
Phonograph with amplifier and speakers – One of the more common Phonographs today is a Phonograph with an external or built-in preamp that includes an amplifier and speakers and even a headphone jack.
Phonograph with amplified speakers – An easier installation is to connect a Phonograph to amplified speakers.
If the sound that your Phonograph produces is not enough for you, it is always possible to add amplified speakers easily and improve the sound quality of your existing Phonograph.
Note that if your Phonograph does not have a preamp, connect the Phonograph first to the amplifier and from there connect to the speaker.
Phonograph with a computer – a Phonograph with a preamplifier and a USB connection that allows the Phonograph to be connected to a computer, thus songs can be heard from the computer.
Phonograph with an old amplifier or stereo system – There are old stereo amplifiers that have a built-in preamp and to which the Phonograph can be connected. To verify this check that PHONO is written on the back panel.
Types of propulsion
Phonograph come in two braces propulsion methods. Strap propulsion and direct propulsion.
Track movement – In this method there is a separate motor that drives the bracket using a rubber strap which passes through the motor head and the bracket. Phonographs that work with this method are considered to have better sound.
Direct drive – a plate that sits on the motor shaft. Phonographs that play this method have a faster start of play and a stronger structure which makes them ideal for use among DJs.
Phonograph heads
A Phonograph head is the bone attached to a handle that is placed on the record to play.
Most Phonographs come with a built-in head. It is advisable to check if your Phonograph comes with a built-in head and in any case you can always replace and upgrade to another one of your choice.
The more expensive the head, the better the sound, the stronger the melody and the better the dynamic range. There are heads that are specially adapted for DJs. Heads that usually come with the Phonograph are MM heads that are good for beginners but if you are advanced and want a better quality head then you can opt for an MC type head.
Before you buy a head, we recommend that you research how to install a head correctly.
